Samsung Galaxy S25: The Debut of Hey Gemini AI Assistant

Samsung Galaxy S25 could be the first phone to support Hey Gemini

For the longest period of time, Google has been going around with "Hey Google" for its AI assistant, but this might change soon. With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series this month, Google might shift its wake words to 'Hey Gemini'. If this holds to be true, then the upcoming series will be the first one to debut with a new call for its assistance.

For context, Gemini AI on Android currently lacks its own dedicated wake word, relying instead on "Hey Google" as the primary hotword for both Google Assistant and Gemini (depending on your default setting). Google debuting its features with a Samsung phone should not come as a surprise. The trend of introducing a new Google AI-feature into a high-end Samsung device started a year back when the Galaxy S24 series debuted with Circle to Search.

Google working with Samsung to load AI smarts in its phones has raised questions about its own Pixel phones. Hints of a possible "Hey Gemini" hotword have surfaced before, though not in the context of smartphones. Toward the end of last year, Google introduced its Android XR platform, designed to power next-generation VR/AR devices such as Samsung's "Project Moohan" headsets and smart glasses, with Google Gemini integrated at its core.

Speculation on Hey Gemini coming to smartphones

Teaser videos for Android XR revealed that the platform is built to leverage the "Hey Gemini" hotword, particularly since it is not expected to support Google Assistant. While it was initially unclear if this wake word would remain exclusive to the "Android platform built for the Gemini AI era," new evidence suggests that it could soon be extended to smartphones—possibly during the Galaxy Unpacked event, scheduled for January 22.

This speculation stems from a leaked Galaxy S25 marketing document, highlighting the series' advanced AI capabilities. The leak, published by the Brazilian outlet Tecnoblog, includes promotional materials for Samsung's flagship series. The upcoming Galaxy S25 series is set to introduce notable upgrades, particularly in AI capabilities and camera technology, which are expected to appeal to users.

Expected features of Galaxy S25

According to leaks, the standout feature of the Galaxy S25 Ultra will once again be its impressive camera system. While it retains the 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel periscope with 5x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom from its predecessor, the major enhancement lies in the ultra-wide camera.

Beyond hardware, the series is expected to debut new AI-driven features. Among them is the "Brief" feature, which delivers personalised daily summaries. Additionally, the integration of Google’s Gemini AI assistant with Samsung apps marks a significant development.

Gemini AI Updates

Users will be able to leverage Gemini for tasks like reading content from YouTube or interacting with Samsung Notes, enabling more seamless and voice-driven interactions between Samsung’s ecosystem and Google’s AI technology.
