Rupee Hits 83.60 Against Dollar: A 17 Paise Plunge

Rupee falls 17 paise to close at 83.60 against U.S. dollar - The Hindu

On June 26, the Rupee depreciated by 17 paise against the U.S. dollar, settling at 83.60 (provisional). This decline was influenced by the strength of the American currency in the global market and the rise in crude oil prices.

Market Analysis

Despite these challenges, the Rupee found some support from the positive performance of domestic equities. Benchmark indices reached new highs, providing a cushion against the downward pressure on the local currency, as noted by forex traders.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the Rupee opened at 83.45, touching an intraday high of 83.43 and a low of 83.61 against the greenback. It eventually closed at 83.60, marking a 17 paise drop from its previous closing rate.

Future Outlook

Analysts anticipate a slightly negative trajectory for the Rupee due to anticipated dollar demand from oil importers towards the end of the month. Factors such as a strong dollar and high crude oil prices might further challenge the Rupee's performance. However, the Rupee could find support from positive domestic markets and foreign investments.

Mr. Anuj Choudhary, a Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas, highlighted that the USDINR spot price is projected to fluctuate in the range of ₹83.30 to ₹84.

Market Indicators

In the broader financial landscape, the dollar index, a measure of the greenback against major currencies, was trading higher at 105.83. Meanwhile, Brent crude futures stood at $85.69 per barrel, reflecting a 0.80% increase.
