Leading Fundamental AI Research at Meta
In an announcement on LinkedIn on 8th April, Fergus revealed that he is now leading the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) division at Meta Platforms. He co-founded FAIR in 2014 alongside Yann LeCun, who currently serves as the chief AI scientist at Meta Platforms.

FAIR is known for its focus on voice translation and image-recognition technology, particularly for Meta's open-source Llama large language model.
Building Human-Level Experiences
Fergus takes over the reins from Joelle Pineau as the chief of FAIR, following Pineau's decision to step down from the role at the end of May. Expressing his gratitude towards Pineau for her foundational work, Fergus expressed his excitement about collaborating with LeCun and the team once again.

Meta Platforms remains committed to long-term AI research, aiming to create human-level experiences that revolutionize technology interaction.
Mark Zuckerberg's AI Strategy
Meta Platforms CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is heavily investing in AI, with plans to allocate $60 billion to $65 billion in capex by 2025 to enhance the company's infrastructure. The integration of AI across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp has been a key focus, with the company even launching a standalone app to compete with OpenAI.

Meta Platforms continues to push the boundaries of AI research, with Fergus at the helm of FAIR leading the charge towards innovative technological advancements.
