A man has created an AI clock that generates a new poem every minute using the AI chatbot, ChatGPT. Matt Webb shared photographs on Twitter showcasing the poetic time displayed by the clock. The clock is not only functional but also motivational, providing daily doses of inspiration to its users.
The AI clock is powered by an old Inky wHAT screen and Raspberry Pi, which was previously set up as a normal text clock. In the clock, 11:38 am is displayed as “Eleven-thirty eight, don’t hesitate/ Time to savor life, don’t be late”. The clock shares many other poetic words of encouragement, such as “It’s time to explore, let your spirit soar/11:34 AM don’t wait anymore”.
The clock uses OpenAI’s API with a single prompt to ChatGPT. The time is used as a parameter within the prompt and instructs the AI to generate two rhyming lines, encouraging it to be imaginative and profound.
Webb described the clock as having "this enthusiastic vibe which I am totally into". Many Twitter users have expressed an interest in the clock and have described it as "cool" and "compelling & magical".
