New Google features | What the Tech? - KOB.com
Google has been a go-to search engine for years, providing pages of results for all our queries. However, with the introduction of Google and AI, the landscape of searching is undergoing a significant transformation. At its I/O event, Google showcased its virtual assistant, Gemini, and the array of new capabilities it brings to the table.
Gemini is positioned as a robust virtual assistant that surpasses the functionalities of Siri and Alexa. It can assist you in various tasks such as finding a restaurant, composing emails, and even facilitating online shopping. According to Christina Basillo from Google, the aim of Gemini is to streamline everyday tasks and act as a personalized assistant.
One of the standout features of Gemini is its AI Mode, which mimics the role of a personal assistant. For instance, when searching for restaurants in a city, Gemini can not only provide listings but also make reservations on your behalf, add them to your calendar, and even place the call for you.
Smart Shopping with Gemini
Shopping online is set to become more intuitive with Gemini. Users can share a photo of a product, such as a sweater or dress, and Gemini will search for similar items. Moreover, it can virtually show you how the item would look on you in your size, aiding in better decision-making.
Enhanced Communication with Google Meet
Google Meet is integrating features that enhance communication across languages. Users will now have the ability to engage in live chats with individuals speaking different languages, with real-time translation that retains the natural flow of conversation.
Gemini's live voice feature is another groundbreaking development, offering real-time descriptions of visual content. Whether it's a volleyball or any other object, Gemini can identify details and provide relevant information, simplifying the shopping experience.
Future Tech - Smart Glasses
Google also teased smart glasses equipped with advanced features like those available on Gemini. These glasses can execute various tasks, including capturing photos and videos, alongside the existing functionalities. While the smart glasses are yet to be released, most other features are currently accessible on Android and iPhones. Users are advised to update the Gemini App if these features are not visible on their devices.
