'AI-Only' Google Search Results Are Now Under Testing—What Can Users Expect?
Gemini 2.0 is expanding, and Google is ramping up its AI experiences with a new feature under testing. Instead of getting webpage results and other types of content when you use Google Search, the feature will feed you "AI-only" results. There is now a feature under testing that may transform the search engine experience as users will be given results that are AI-only. This latest feature was recently announced by Google as part of its grand plans to expand AI Overviews. It summarizes the search results, giving information and context about what one is looking for.

AI Mode: A Game-Changer in Search Technology
Search's AI Overviews may soon get a new feature called the "AI Mode," which is the one that is currently under testing from Google. According to the company, the AI Mode offers AI-powered responses to users that focus on sharing generated information from the websites or pages that its search engine crawled.

Currently, Google's AI Overviews only appeared on top of the results' first page, right below the text field. However, this new AI Mode that the company is testing revamps the experience by offering the summary of all the results into one article-like format, similar to interacting with a chatbot.
The Evolution of AI-Powered Search
2024 marked the beginning of the AI search era in the tech industry, bringing about experiences that are changing the landscape for users. Google introduced AI-powered search last year with the launch of AI Overviews. The technology initially faced mixed reviews due to fabricated information, leading to it being temporarily benched before its re-release.

Subsequently, other companies introduced new experiences integrating generative AI into their search features. OpenAI followed suit with ChatGPT's Search capabilities. By December, the company made ChatGPT Search publicly accessible for free and without limitations. Other industry players like Meta, Microsoft, and Perplexity have also incorporated generative AI into their search offerings.
