Gmail Rolling Out Gemini AI-Powered Summarise Feature for iOS and Android Apps
Google is introducing new artificial intelligence (AI) features for Gmail, including the Summarise email feature now available on the iOS and Android apps. This feature was previously exclusive to the web version of Gmail. Additionally, the web version of Gmail will also receive the Gemini side panel, a feature recently added to other Google apps such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Drive. These AI capabilities will be accessible to Google Workspace users with business or education accounts, as well as those with a Google One AI Premium subscription.
AI Features for Gmail
The new AI features were announced through a Google Workspace Updates post on Monday. The expansion of the Summarise email feature to iOS and Android apps is a significant highlight. Users can now quickly summarize email threads on their smartphones to grasp the context of conversations more efficiently. This feature aims to save time and effort by providing a condensed view of lengthy email discussions.
The Gemini AI-powered Summarise feature analyzes email threads and presents a summarized view with key highlights in a bottom sheet. Users can access summaries for any email thread with a minimum of two replies. In addition, Contextual Smart Reply and Gmail Q&A will soon be available on the mobile apps.
Gemini Features for Gmail Web
Gmail for web is receiving a new layout change for the Gemini features. The Gemini AI now appears in a side panel that opens on the right margin. This side panel, previously integrated into various Google Workspace apps, is powered by the Gemini 1.5 Pro AI model. It offers features like summarizing email threads, suggesting responses, drafting emails, and enabling users to ask questions about specific email information.
Google to integrate Gemini AI-powered reply suggestions in Gmail
Gmail users can expect the deployment of these Gemini AI features in the coming days. These features will be accessible to Google Workspace users with Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-ons, and Google One AI Premium subscription.
