Gmail to provide contextual 'Smart Replies' with AI Assistant Gemini
Google has introduced a new AI feature named ‘contextual smart replies’ in Gmail, allowing users to promptly respond to incoming emails with suggested replies based on the email content. This feature is an enhanced version of the Smart Reply feature introduced in 2017.
Gmail’s Smart Reply feature is now powered by Google’s AI Assistant Gemini, which analyzes the context of the email to offer responses that are specifically tailored to the ongoing conversation. Users will see various reply suggestions with different tones and themes displayed in a carousel format at the bottom of the screen, derived from the complete content of the email thread.

Upon long-pressing each response, users can preview the initial words of the title and content. The AI tool will provide a complete reply to the email, starting with a greeting and closing, multiple paragraphs of text, and all the necessary information the sender is looking for.
Furthermore, users have the flexibility to customize the responses by making additional edits and adding more details before sending them out. It is important to note that this Gemini-powered feature is currently accessible to Google Workspace users, including Gemini Business, Education, Education Premium, Enterprise, and Google One AI Premium, and is available in English language.

This feature is set to be gradually introduced to all users, including those using iOS and desktop platforms.
