US chipmaker NVIDIA to open AI research, data centers in Vietnam
The Vietnamese government and U.S. chip giant NVIDIA have signed an agreement to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) research and development center as well as an AI data center in Vietnam. The signing ceremony took place on December 5, 2024, with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of NVIDIA, in attendance.
Partnership for AI Innovation
Both Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Jensen Huang expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, which aims to create platforms for NVIDIA and its local partners to foster AI innovation in Vietnam. The agreement is a result of a close partnership that has been developing over the past year, starting from PM Chinh's visit to NVIDIA's headquarters in the United States in September of the previous year.

Huang commended Vietnam's potential and strengths, emphasizing the importance of the government's support and investment in the AI field to build a thriving AI ecosystem in the country. He highlighted the transformative power of AI, drawing parallels to the energy industry's evolution and the potential for AI to revolutionize data processing.

During the press briefing following the signing ceremony, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized that the partnership with NVIDIA marks a significant milestone for Vietnam. This collaboration underscores the country's potential and standing in research and development, particularly in AI-related fields.

The establishment of a world-class AI research and development center by NVIDIA in Vietnam is set to lay the foundation for an advanced AI ecosystem in the country.
