Meta's AI Plans for Ad Creation

In April, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted that the company may use AI to handle ad creative, targeting, and measurement, with advertisers only needing to connect their bank accounts. This futuristic concept could become a reality sooner than expected, possibly by next year.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Meta is gearing up to allow brands to produce and target their ads on Meta's apps using AI tools by 2026. This initiative would involve creating personalized image backgrounds and making various adjustments to marketers' ad content.

Advertisers will be able to provide Meta with their objectives and price points, receiving a fully developed ad that Meta will launch to their desired audience. Additionally, advertisers can request multiple versions of the same ad tailored to different locations and audience segments.

The recent announcement follows Meta's "Early Release" program, offering advertisers access to test new generative AI Advantage+ creative features across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads before wider availability.

Positive Impact of Meta's AI Advertising Suite

Since the launch of Meta's AI advertising suite in 2022, the company has seen a significant revenue increase, with $42 billion generated in Q1 of 2025, marking a 16% year-over-year growth. An internal study also revealed a 22% boost in return on ad spend for advertisers using Meta's AI-powered tools.

However, this shift towards more automated ad creation could reshape the advertising industry, affecting agencies' roles in media planning and buying, especially for brands with limited budgets. The news led investors to sell off shares of major marketing services companies like WPP, Publicis Groupe, and Havas, potentially diverting more revenue towards Meta.

Meta plans to invest up to $72 billion in capital expenditure in the coming year, with a portion allocated to enhancing its AI infrastructure. Company executives have emphasized that Meta's goal is not to eliminate traditional ad agencies but to streamline advertisers' processes and resources.
