Revamping Leadership: Google's Latest Move in AI Team

Google (GOOGL) Announces Leadership Changes to Its AI Team

Google is shaking up its AI team leadership to shift its focus towards improving the Gemini app. Sissie Hsiao, who spearheaded the team behind the Bard chatbot (now known as Gemini), is stepping down immediately with plans to return to Google in a different capacity after a short hiatus. Taking over her role will be Josh Woodward, the current head of Google Labs and the mind behind NotebookLM, a tool that transforms text into podcast-style audio.

Embracing Change for Faster Progress

In a memo from Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, it was highlighted that these changes aim to propel Google into a faster pace as the AI landscape evolves from mere model construction to the development of practical tools driven by these models. The company's primary focus now lies on the upcoming iteration of the Gemini app. In the previous year, Google moved the Gemini team under its DeepMind division to streamline its AI initiatives.
