Revamp in ChatGPT's Link Tagging: What You Need to Know

All links from ChatGPT will now be tagged accurately | Lily Ray

Love some good SEO/analytics news these days. Also love when search platforms listen to their users and make changes that actually provide transparency to site owners and marketers… what a concept!

Heads-up for ChatGPT Users

This should jump the traffic levels in GA4 and other analytics tools for ChatGPT. That's because ChatGPT finally added utm parameters for "More" sources versus just the citations. Those links used to be standard links without utm parameters. Now they contain utm_source=chatgpt. I'll be checking analytics shortly, but I'm sure I'll find an uptick for ChatGPT.

Excited to see where this new transparency leads. Might see a bump but nothing like pre-AI numbers. For platforms to truly listen to their users, publishers need to grow a backbone and collectively band together to cut off AI platforms. Time for some good old collective action to challenge what is essentially theft.
