Google's March Pixel Feature Drop: Here's what's new | Technology ...
On Tuesday, Google released the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop, which includes various AI improvements, security enhancements, and new features aimed at enhancing the user experience on eligible Pixel smartphones. This update, based on the Android 15 OS, is currently being rolled out gradually and is expected to be available on all eligible devices in the coming weeks.
Enhancements to Gemini Live 2.0
The latest Pixel Feature Drop introduces an upgraded Gemini Live 2.0, powered by the Flash 2.0 model, now supporting more than 45 different languages. Users can now interact with the voice chatbot in various languages without the need to manually adjust the language settings, as Gemini Live will automatically adapt to the spoken language.
This update builds upon Gemini's multimodal capabilities introduced in the previous Pixel Feature Drop, allowing users to upload images, files, add YouTube links, and include text prompts when interacting with Gemini Live. Additionally, Google has announced that Gemini Live on eligible Pixel devices with a Gemini Advanced subscription will soon support interaction through live video and screen sharing.
Enhancements to Pixel Features
The update also brings improvements to the Pixel Screenshot app, which now offers suggestions to automatically classify screenshots into different categories such as expense reports and bills. Pixel Studio, the AI image generator, has been updated to generate images of people based on simple text prompts.
Google has expanded its on-device Gemini Nano-powered scam detection to the Google Messages app, providing real-time warnings to users about spam messages. For Pixel Fold users, the update enables dual-screen camera previews during video recording, supports connecting additional cameras, and introduces multi-camera streaming capabilities.
Device Compatibility
The March 2025 update is compatible with the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel 9 series of smartphones. However, certain features like connected cameras, scam detection in the Messages app, and Pixel Studio image generation are exclusive to the Pixel 9 series.
