Opting Out of AI Training: How to Keep Your Chats Private

How to opt out for chatbots using your conversations for AI training?

Be cautious when sharing information with chatbots, as your conversations could potentially be utilized to improve the artificial intelligence system they are based on. ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Meta AI, Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI's ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude are some examples of chatbots that may use your interactions for AI training.

Google Gemini

Google's Gemini chatbot stores conversations to train its machine learning systems. Users over 18 years old can adjust settings to manage the retention period of chats. To opt out, visit the Gemini website, navigate to the Activity tab, and choose to stop recording chats or delete previous conversations.

Meta AI

Meta's AI chatbot on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram is powered by open-source AI language models trained on publicly available information. Users in the EU and UK can object to their data being used for training Meta's AI systems through a form on the Facebook privacy page.

Microsoft Copilot

Personal users cannot opt out of AI training with Microsoft Copilot. However, they can delete their interaction history through their Microsoft account settings.

OpenAI's ChatGPT

Users with an OpenAI account can disable data training settings in the Data controls section. Those without an account can access these options through the ChatGPT website or mobile apps to opt out of AI training.

Grok

Elon Musk's X has enabled Grok to train on social media data by default. Users can opt out by adjusting privacy settings on the desktop browser version of X.

Claude

Anthropic AI's chatbot Claude does not use personal data for training unless users explicitly permit it. Conversations flagged for safety review may also contribute to the training of the company's AI systems.
