As the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek gains ground in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, OpenAI is striving to catch up with improvements and new tools for ChatGPT. The tech company unveiled its new Artificial Intelligence (AI) agent, Deep Research, in Tokyo on Monday, a new tool that enables autonomous and multi-step web research, as reported by Efe.

"Deep Research showcases what will be possible with AI agents. It can perform complex tasks for users and generate reports," explained OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, at a conference held in Tokyo alongside tech giant Softbank and in front of around five hundred local companies.

Currently, this new technology is only available to users of the Pro version of the tool, with a maximum of 100 queries per month, and will later be rolled out to users of the Plus, Team, and Enterprise versions of ChatGPT before being released to the free version.

OpenAI's announcement comes weeks after the launch of DeepSeek, the latest Chinese alternative for AI development, which is leading the free download charts on the mobile app store App Store in both China and the United States, surpassing ChatGPT itself.
