Musk said he would drop the lawsuit if OpenAI changed to ClosedAI ...
American billionaire Elon Musk stated that he would retract his lawsuit against OpenAI on the condition that Sam Altman's company agreed to rename itself as ClosedAI.
"Change your name to ClosedAI and I will drop the lawsuit," Musk replied to a post by OpenAI on X on March 6. He reiterated this message in a subsequent post, insisting that "OpenAI stop living a lie."
Elon Musk even went so far as to edit a photo of CEO Sam Altman holding a visitor's badge from a previous visit to the company's headquarters, replacing "OpenAI" with "ClosedAI."
OpenAI and Tesla Merger
Musk's public statements on X were prompted by OpenAI's release of internal emails exchanged between its co-founders from 2015 to 2018. These emails were released to debunk the claims made in Musk's lawsuit and provide clarity on their relationship.
According to the emails, Musk proposed merging OpenAI with Tesla to secure funding for building AGI. Musk intended to acquire a majority stake and assume the role of CEO to exert control over the board. However, negotiations fell through as OpenAI believed that granting absolute control to any individual conflicted with their original principles.
Elon Musk's Lawsuit and Criticisms
Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI reflects his ongoing disapproval of the organization. Musk parted ways with the company in 2018 and has frequently criticized it for deviating from its initial goal of benefiting humanity and instead prioritizing profit, especially after securing a $1 billion investment from Microsoft.
Meanwhile, under Sam Altman's leadership, OpenAI has emerged as one of the most valuable and rapidly expanding startups globally, with a current valuation of $80 billion, as reported by the New York Times. However, the company is grappling with copyright-related challenges concerning the data used to train its AI models.
