OpenAI wants ChatGPT to 'know you over your life' with new Memory feature
OpenAI is upgrading ChatGPT's memory feature with the ability to remember and reference all the past conversations. The Memory feature has been around for more than a year and allows ChatGPT to save conversations when asked to remember something specific. For instance, if a user asks ChatGPT to remember a preference, such as not liking bullet points, ChatGPT will remember and apply that in future interactions. However, the limitation of the previous Memory feature was that it couldn't remember everything and could mix up conversations after a certain point.
Enhanced Memory Feature
With the new update, OpenAI is introducing an enhanced version of the Memory feature. In a post on X, OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman highlighted that ChatGPT's Memory can now reference all past interactions. This advancement aims to create AI systems that gradually get to know users over their lifetime, providing personalized and useful experiences. Users also have the option to disable the Memory feature in the settings or utilize the Temporary Chat feature.
Rollout Plan
The integration of ChatGPT Memory is currently rolling out to $200 Pro subscribers, with expected availability for $20 Plus subscribers in the near future. However, there is no specific timeline for when the feature will be accessible to free users.
