OpenAI, the developer of chat AI ChatGPT, stipulates in its recent statement that their usage policies do not allow the automation of weapons or systems affecting personal safety. The statement comes after the discovery of a sentry gun named 'STS 3D', created by a developer, which automatically fires bullets when given specific instructions.
STS 3D and the Realtime API
The sentry gun 'STS 3D' responds to ChatGPT instructions, such as 'We are under attack from the left and right front. Please respond appropriately,' by firing bullets forward. Additionally, STS 3D utilizes OpenAI's Realtime API to instantly process instructions from humans.

Despite some users criticizing the developer for potentially dangerous implications, OpenAI took notice and promptly addressed the situation. The organization stated, 'We have identified STS 3D's violations of our policies and have notified the developer to cease development.'
Future Developments in AI-Enabled Weapons Systems
The US Department of Defense recently announced an AI-enabled sentry gun called 'Bullfrog'. Equipped with a 7.62mm M240 machine gun and its own AI capabilities, Bullfrog can effectively counter aerial threats like small drones.
