OpenAI Outage Impacts ChatGPT Users
SAN FRANCISCO — OpenAI is currently facing a major outage, leading to disruptions for users trying to access ChatGPT and the company's API. The tech giant has attributed this outage to an issue with an "upstream provider." The problem first surfaced around 2 p.m. ET, as reported by DownDetector, with approximately 15,000 users initially reporting problems.
Continued Challenges for Users
While the number of reported outages has decreased since then, there are still numerous users encountering difficulties. OpenAI acknowledged the situation, stating, "Most of ChatGPT, the API, and Sora have been inaccessible for a few hours, and we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused." In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the company assured users that they are working on resolving the issue promptly.
Impact on Services
Individuals attempting to use ChatGPT may find that they are unable to make requests to the bot, instead encountering error messages or experiencing issues with loading chat history. Sora, another service provided by OpenAI, was also affected, remaining non-operational for over four hours. However, as of just after 6 p.m. ET, OpenAI confirmed that Sora is now back to being fully operational.
Ongoing Disruption
The outage has persisted for several hours, with no clear timeline provided for a resolution. According to TechCrunch, this marks the second significant outage of the month, following a six-hour disruption that occurred two weeks ago.
