OpenAI Ordered to Retain Deleted ChatGPT Data - OpenAI is now required to retain deleted ChatGPT conversations due to a court order linked to a copyright lawsuit involving the New York Times and other publications. Previously, such data was erased after 30 days. Now, it will be stored separately and securely as potential evidence for the case.
Users under a Zero Data Retention agreement, along with Enterprise and Edu editions, are exempt from this policy. OpenAI stresses that this data will be accessed only to satisfy legal obligations and intends to appeal the ruling.
