Google introduces Gemini feature that lets users recall past conversations
Google has announced that its AI assistant Gemini has added a feature that can recall and summarize past conversations and improve answers with information from other previous conversations. This feature is being rolled out in English to Gemini Advanced subscribers through the Google One AI Premium Plan, which costs 2,900 yen per month.
The Gemini app can now recall past chats
Rolling out starting today, you can ask Gemini to consider your past chats to craft its responses. Easily pick up where you left off or have it summarize a previous topic. You can view, edit, or delete any chats you've had with Gemini, and see when it's used.
With the conversation recall feature, you no longer have to restart previous conversations you had in Gemini or search through previous conversation threads, and you can even start new conversations based on previous conversations or projects you have already started.
Users can review and delete the chat history that's saved under this new feature, change how long it's saved, or turn off conversation recall entirely by changing their activity.
Google says it never trains AI models based on users' conversation histories. 
According to TechCrunch, an IT news site that reported on this announcement, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously said, 'Memory improvements are one of the most requested features for ChatGPT.'
ChatGPT and Gemini are adding a more general memory feature in 2024, allowing users to teach their chatbots to remember detailed information about them, such as how they would like to be spoken to, their food preferences, or whether they prefer to drive or bike, but by default they could not record and recall their entire chat history.
The conversation recall feature now available on Gemini is available in English to Gemini Advanced subscribers through the Google One AI premium plan on the web and mobile app.
'We plan to roll this out to more languages and to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers in the coming weeks,' Citron said.
