Meta updates Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses to add live translation...
On December 17, 2024, Meta announced the launch of version 11, the latest software update for their smart glasses. This update brings exciting new features to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, including Live AI and Live Translation.
Live AI
With Live AI, Meta's artificial intelligence technology can now continuously identify objects that the user is looking at, enabling more natural interactions between the AI and the user. This allows for hands-free assistance and insights from Meta AI in real-time during various activities such as cooking, gardening, and exploring. Users can ask Meta AI questions without needing to use the wake word 'Hey Meta,' seamlessly refer back to earlier parts of the conversation, pause to ask follow-up questions, or change topics. Moreover, Live AI is expected to provide proactive suggestions even before the user asks a question, although specific details are yet to be revealed.
Live Translation
Live Translation is another notable feature introduced in this update, as demonstrated by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the Connect Keynote 2024 event. This feature enables real-time voice translation between English, Spanish, French, and Italian. Users can receive translations either through the open-ear speaker of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses or as text on their smartphone screens. Meta highlighted the significance of this feature in breaking down language barriers, fostering communication, and enhancing travel experiences.
Shazam Integration
Additionally, the software update version 11 includes the integration of Shazam, a popular music recognition service, accessible to all users. By simply saying 'Hey, Meta. What's this song?' users can identify songs playing in their surroundings hands-free. Meta emphasized the convenience of this feature, especially in situations where users come across unfamiliar yet captivating music.
It is essential to note that both Live AI and Live Translation are currently in the testing phase and may not always function flawlessly.
