These chatbots are trained using our own social media posts from platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Your interactions contribute to teaching them how to communicate, while your posted pictures help inform Meta’s AI image generation.

Meta President of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg mentioned that the information used is largely publicly available. Private messages are not used for training the AI, ensuring user privacy.

Celebrity Chatbots and AI-Generated Images

Meta announced its latest AI features at Meta Connect 2023, introducing updates for Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook in the upcoming months.

One of the exciting features is Meta AI, a new assistant that users can message on various platforms including WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. This assistant operates using Meta's large-language model, Llama 2, which can also generate images and fetch real-time information from Bing search engine.

Personalized Experiences on Social Media

To add some fun to social media interactions, Meta is introducing AI chatbots with unique "personalities" on platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. These 28 personas include real-life celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Snoop Dogg, Naomi Osaka, and Paris Hilton, offering advice and engaging conversations on various topics.

Users will soon be able to enhance their Instagram posts with AI-generated backdrops, changing backgrounds to cities, animals, or altering visual styles like watercolor paintings. These features leverage Meta's in-house AI tools such as Emu for image generation and Segment Anything for object recognition.

Future of AI on Social Platforms

Meta aims to democratize AI, allowing users to create their own chatbots and apps. Developers will soon have access to Meta's AI platform to create more bots and services for Messenger and WhatsApp. Additionally, creators with large followings will be able to engage with their fans using these tools. The company envisions a future where AI personas populate its virtual-reality playground.
