Facebook parent Meta Platforms working on AI technology for Europe
Facebook owner Meta Platforms is developing artificial intelligence technology tailored specifically for Europe. This technology will incorporate linguistic, geographic, and cultural nuances unique to the region. The company announced this initiative on Monday.
Meta Platforms plans to train its extensive language models using content that users in the European Union have opted to share publicly on its social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. It is worth noting that the company will exclude private posts shared among family and friends to uphold user privacy, as explained by Meta's top policy executive in an interview with Reuters back in September.
Respecting User Privacy
Meta Platforms utilized public posts from Facebook and Instagram to train segments of its new Meta AI virtual assistant. To ensure that user privacy is maintained, private posts were not included in the training data. The company recently announced that it will inform Facebook and Instagram users in Europe and the United Kingdom about how their public information is utilized to enhance and develop artificial intelligence technologies.
