Meta To Introduce Celebrity Voices For AI Chatbot, Including John Cena and Judi Dench
Meta AI chatbot is set to launch new voice modes featuring the voices of celebrities such as John Cena and Judi Dench. The announcement is expected to be made at Meta Connect 2024.
Voice Mode Enhancement
Meta AI Chatbot has become a significant addition to social media platforms, and the social media giant is now looking to improve it with an OpenAI-like Voice Mode. According to Reuters, the Meta AI will include the voices of celebrities like Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, and John Cena, with minimal controversy surrounding the choices.
Celebrity Voices Selection
Users will have the option to select a voice for Meta's ChatGPT-like digital assistant from a pool of five celebrities, which also includes Awkwafina and Keegan-Michael Key, along with other generic voice options. Meta is scheduled to unveil the audio capabilities during its annual Connect conference on Wednesday.
At this year's Connect event, Meta is also expected to showcase a prototype of its augmented reality glasses and discuss future hardware products, such as the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that were introduced last year as the company's initial offering, which featured an audio version of the AI chatbot.
Rollout and Expansion
According to Reuters, the celebrity voices will gradually become available across Meta's family of apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, starting this week in the United States and other English-speaking regions. Earlier this summer, Bloomberg reported that Meta was in talks with celebrities regarding the use of their voices for artificial intelligence initiatives.
Last week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a promotional video of John Cena on Instagram, demonstrating various stunts while wearing Ray-Ban Meta eyewear. In its quest to lead the field of artificial intelligence, Meta has been integrating generative AI products to enhance the user experience of its billions of users, competing with major players like Google and OpenAI.

AI Advancements
In May, OpenAI introduced a similar audio feature for its chatbot but ran into issues when actor Scarlett Johansson expressed concerns that the chatbot sounded remarkably similar to her voice, despite her refusal to participate in the project. Currently, Meta's assistant can respond to user commands by generating graphics and engaging in text conversations.
Last year, Meta experimented with text-based "character" versions of the chatbot inspired by celebrities like Paris Hilton and Snoop Dogg, but these versions did not gain much traction with users. Subsequently, Meta shifted its focus to developing an AI Studio tool that enables content creators on its platforms to create chatbot replicas of themselves.
