Early Life and Challenges
Originally from Taiwan, Jensen Huang and his brother were sent to a relative in the USA. Huang was supposed to live at what was thought to be a prestigious boarding school in Kentucky, but it turned out to be a religious school for troubled youth. Every student smoked, and Huang was subjected to repeated bullying by the other students. As something of a prodigy, he graduated at the age of 16.
Founding of Nvidia
Together with two other people, he founded Nvidia at one of the fast-food chain Denny's restaurants, the same chain where Huang previously worked as a dishwasher. Originally focused on graphics cards for computer games, Nvidia has expanded and is seen as a giant winner in the AI revolution.
Success and Achievements
In the past five years, Nvidia's share has soared over 1,400%, making Huang one of the 15 richest people in the world with a fortune of around 118 billion dollars. Jensen Huang is the co-founder and CEO of Nvidia since 1993. The company name comes from the Latin word for envy, invidia, something they hoped the company would spread in the industry.
The start of the company was tough, and for a while, they were extremely close to bankruptcy. A breakthrough came through the establishment of the company Open AI with CEO Sam Altman, and the entire AI revolution has contributed to Nvidia's world-leading position.
For investors, the Nvidia share has been incredibly successful, and it's now not far from the top level recorded last autumn. Jensen Huang was last week ranked 13th on the list of the world's richest people with a fortune of 118 billion dollars.
