Instagram Updates Profile Grid With Vertical-Aligned Thumbnails
If you have checked out your Instagram profile grid lately, you may have noticed a recent change in format. Instagram has updated the thumbnail images for your posts to be more vertically aligned, as opposed to the regular square image display.
This new presentation style, which Instagram has been experimenting with for months, is more aligned with Reels and TikTok. As Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri states, this format is more suited to how the majority of people now use the app.
Changes to Profile Grid
Mosseri explains that the shift to a more vertical grid is because most photos and videos uploaded to Instagram are vertical. This change may have disrupted some users who have carefully crafted complex grid displays. However, Instagram is working on solutions to help users customize their thumbnails and maintain their desired grid layout.
Instagram is also looking to integrate Highlights into the grid, providing users with the ability to re-order their entire grid as they see fit.
Customization Options
Users will soon have more control over their profile display within this new format. Instagram is working on adding features that allow users to post directly to their grid and re-align their presentation around the taller, vertical images.
Despite some user dissatisfaction with this update, Instagram had previously announced the changes, indicating that the shift towards a more vertical grid has been in the works for some time. The sudden rollout is part of Instagram's effort to position itself as a primary alternative to TikTok.
Adapting to the New Era
As more content is now uploaded in vertical format, it's essential for users to adapt their approach to align with this new profile UI. It's time to refresh your Instagram profile for this new era.
