OpenAI Unveils SearchGPT, an AI-Powered Search Engine
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has recently introduced a new AI-powered search engine called SearchGPT. This innovative search engine has the potential to challenge the likes of Google and Bing in the future. According to OpenAI, SearchGPT is designed to leverage the company's AI models and web information to provide fast, accurate, and relevant answers to user queries.
Unlike traditional search engines such as Google and Bing, SearchGPT directly provides answers to user queries along with links to the original sources. Users can even ask follow-up questions, enabling shared context building with each query.
Enhancing User Experience
OpenAI aims to help users connect with publishers by prominently citing and linking to them in search results. The search engine also ensures attribution for the AI-generated answers, ensuring transparency for users regarding the sources of information. For instance, when users search for topics like music festivals, SearchGPT summarizes the results and provides brief descriptions along with links to the sources.
The company clarifies that SearchGPT focuses solely on search functionality and is independent of training OpenAI's generative AI models. Additionally, websites that have opted out of generative AI training can still appear in SearchGPT results.
As the sporting world gears up for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, 117 Indian athletes are set to participate with the aim of surpassing the medal count from Tokyo 2020. OpenAI plans to integrate SearchGPT with ChatGPT in the future. Powered by the GPT-4 family of models, this AI-powered search engine will initially be available to a limited group of 10,000 test users upon launch.
With Google incorporating AI Overviews in search results to retain users, OpenAI's SearchGPT could pose a significant challenge to Alphabet's dominance in the search engine market. This new offering may also compete with other AI-powered search engines like Perplexity, which recently faced criticism for scraping publisher sites without permission.
