Eleven major high-tech zones in China have come together to form a collaborative network aimed at boosting innovation in the country’s AI industry, as reported by China Science Daily. The establishment of this network was announced during a conference held in Beijing earlier this week.
Collaboration for Innovation
The collaborative network comprises 11 prominent high-tech zones across China, including Beijing’s Zhongguancun, known as China’s “Silicon Valley,” as well as zones in Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Hefei, Qingdao, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Xi’an. This collaborative effort is seen as a significant step towards fostering innovation in the field of artificial intelligence within the country.
Driving AI Innovation
Wu Jiaxi, the deputy director of the planning department at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, expressed optimism about the network's potential to create a conducive environment for AI innovation through an inclusive and open approach. High-tech zones play a crucial role in advancing AI development in China and have emerged as key players in driving innovation in this sector.
Wu highlighted the importance of establishing a supportive ecosystem for AI innovation, promoting shared benefits among stakeholders, and enhancing the country's AI landscape through an innovation-centric approach.
The Zhongguancun Initiative
At the conference, participants introduced the Zhongguancun Initiative, which aims to accelerate the progress of AI technologies, particularly in areas such as chips, algorithms, and models. The initiative also seeks to create a comprehensive innovation and entrepreneurship service system that spans the entire AI industry chain.
Key objectives of the Zhongguancun Initiative include:
- Facilitating technology, industry, capital, and talent exchange
-
Promoting the establishment of open AI platforms for sharing advancements - Engaging high-tech zones in setting international and national standards
- Ensuring data security and privacy protection
The initiative underscores the significance of regular supervision and regulatory services for AI platform companies to guarantee the integrity and reliability of AI technologies.
By fostering collaboration among high-tech zones and prioritizing innovation and development, the Chinese AI industry is poised for continued growth and advancement in the global arena.
