India is the largest market for Meta AI usage: CFO Susan Li
India has emerged as the largest market in terms of usage of Meta AI, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot assistant launched by Facebook's parent, as highlighted by the company's chief financial officer Susan Li during the second quarter earnings call. The CFO mentioned that people have used Meta AI for billions of queries since its introduction, with India becoming the largest market for Meta AI usage. This growth in India coincided with auspicious signs on WhatsApp regarding retention and engagement.
Meta AI Expansion in India
Meta launched its AI chatbot in September last year, and it became available in India in June this year. The AI chatbot is a conversational assistant found on Meta apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. It is integrated into Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and will soon be integrated with the Quest 3, Meta's mixed reality headset. The AI-powered assistant offers real-time information and can generate photorealistic images from text prompts.
Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg expressed confidence that the Assistant Meta AI is on track to become the most used AI assistant by the end of the year.
Significance of India for Meta
India is Meta's largest market, with over a billion users across its apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads. The country has significantly contributed to Meta's growth, leading in Daily Active Users (DAUs) growth for the company's apps. As of April, India had over 378 million Facebook users, the largest audience globally for the platform. India is also a key market for Meta's new platform, Threads, nearing 200 million monthly users.
Insights from the Q2 Report
Meta reported $39.07 billion in revenue for the quarter, with a 22% increase, and $13.46 billion in profit, marking a 73% rise. The company expects third-quarter revenue of $38.5-$41 billion and projects ongoing operating losses for Reality Labs in 2024 due to investments.
Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the impact of AI on Meta's platforms, noting that around 30% of Facebook feed posts are delivered by the AI recommendation system. Over 50% of the content seen on Instagram is AI-recommended, enabling more relevant ad deliveries and enhancing value for advertisers. Revenue from Meta's AI-powered tools has more than doubled since last year.
Meta aims for users to develop their AI systems through AI Studio, enabling creators to design AI agents to interact across Meta apps. Business AIs, currently in Alpha testing, will help small businesses use AI agents to interact with customers.
