Google's Gemini Update: What to Expect in Chrome

Google confirms Gemini for Chrome on Windows 11, teases big AI integration

Google has officially confirmed its plans to release Gemini in Chrome for Windows 11 and Windows 10, setting the stage for a potential showdown with Microsoft's Copilot feature. Previous reports about Gemini Live integration in Google Chrome have been circulating for some time now, and a recent slide deck from Google's antitrust trial has finally provided concrete evidence of the integration.

As Megan Grey on X discovered and Windows Latest verified, the slide deck from the U.S. and Plaintiff States v. Google LLC antitrust trial explicitly states Google's intention to incorporate Gemini Live into the Chrome browser on desktop.

Google presented a slide titled “Chrome is on a journey to bring the best of Google and personal AI agents to one of our most loved platforms,” hinting at significant changes coming to the browser in 2025 and beyond.

What to Expect from Google's Chrome Update

While Google hasn't disclosed all the features coming to Chrome in 2025, the company's use of the term “confidential” suggests that more than just Gemini integration is on the horizon. However, it's unlikely that Google will reveal these plans at the upcoming I/O 2025 event.

According to a previous report by Windows Latest, Chrome's Gemini will function as a resizable widget, accessible through a system tray button or toolbar icon. The behavior of this widget is reminiscent of early versions of Copilot.

You'll be able to open Gemini using a new system tray (taskbar) button on Windows 11, even if Chrome is closed, indicating that taskbar integration is in the works. Chromium Gerrit posts further confirm this integration, with developers clarifying that the taskbar integration is indeed on the horizon.

Latest Updates on Gemini Integration

In March 2025, Chrome researcher Leo spotted that the Gemini Live button would be accessible via the system tray on Windows 11, further solidifying Google's commitment to enhancing the user experience.

Watch out Copilot, Google could add Gemini Live to Windows 11

It's important to note that Gemini for Windows 11 heavily relies on Chrome, suggesting that Google has no immediate plans to develop a standalone native app for the desktop OS.
