Google announces Gemini 2.0 Flash GA and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite
Google has been making significant strides in the world of AI with its Gemini models. Back in December 2023, Google introduced the Gemini 2.0 family of models, which included the impressive Gemini 2.0 Flash model. This new model surpassed its predecessor, the Gemini 1.5 Pro, on various AI benchmarks and boasted twice the speed.
General Availability of Gemini 2.0 Flash
Today, Google unveiled the general availability of the Gemini 2.0 Flash model for developers. This model comes with support for native tool use, a 1 million token context window, and multimodal input capabilities. It can process text, images, and audio outputs efficiently. Developers can access the Gemini 2.0 Flash model through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI to start building production applications. The cost for using the Gemini 2.0 Flash model is $0.10 per million tokens for text/image/video inputs and $0.40 for text outputs.
Introducing Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite
In addition to the Gemini 2.0 Flash model, Google also introduced a new variant called Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite. This model comes with a 1 million token context window and is touted as Google's most cost-efficient model to date. The Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite model is currently available in public preview at a cost of $0.075 per million tokens for text/image/video inputs and $0.30 for text outputs.
Update on Gemini 2.0 Pro
Google also announced the latest experimental update for the Gemini 2.0 Pro model. This update promises improved coding and complex prompt performance, offering a 2 million token window and compatibility with tools such as Google Search and code execution.
For General Consumers
For general consumers, Google revealed that Gemini app users can now try the new Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model. Built on the speed and performance of Gemini 2.0 Flash, this model enhances reasoning capabilities, allowing users to trace the model's line of reasoning. The experimental version of Gemini 2.0 Pro is accessible to Gemini Advanced subscribers, providing enhanced coding capabilities and improved performance with complex tasks. Both the Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental and 2.0 Pro Experimental models are progressively rolling out to Gemini web and mobile app users. Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers can expect access to these models in the near future.
