Google Unveils Gemini 2.5 with Enhanced AI Features at I/O 2025
Google's annual I/O developer conference showcased significant advancements in its AI capabilities, with Gemini 2.5 taking center stage as the company's most intelligent model yet. Starting this week, Gemini 2.5 is coming to Search for both AI Mode and AI Overviews in the U.S.
The company also introduced a new interactive quiz feature that allows users to simply ask Gemini to "create a practice quiz on..." any topic, and Gemini will generate questions. The quiz experience is interactive, providing hints, explanations for right and wrong answers, and offering a helpful summary at the end with areas of strength along with topics that might benefit from more study.
Enhanced Personalization with Gemini Live
In the coming weeks, Google will make Gemini Live more personal by connecting favorite Google apps so users can take actions mid-conversation, such as adding something to their calendar or asking for more details about a location, starting with Google Maps, Calendar, Tasks, and Keep. Users can ask and get the latest details from Google Maps, with more Google ecosystem connections planned. These app connections and information can be managed anytime in the app's settings.
Introducing Gemini 2.5 Flash and 2.5 Pro
Google introduced a new preview version of its leading model, Gemini 2.5 Flash, with stronger performance on coding and complex reasoning tasks that are optimized for speed and efficiency. The 2.5 Flash model is now available to everyone in the Gemini app, with an updated version coming to Google AI Studio for developers and Vertex AI for enterprises in early June, followed by 2.5 Pro.
The 2.5 Pro model will be enhanced with Deep Think, an experimental, enhanced reasoning mode for highly-complex math and coding. Through exploring the frontiers of Gemini's thinking capabilities, Deep Think uses new research techniques enabling the model to consider multiple hypotheses before responding. It gets an impressive score on 2025 USAMO, currently one of the hardest math benchmarks, and also leads on LiveCodeBench, a difficult benchmark for competition-level coding.
Gemini 2.5 Deep Think and Google AI Ultra
Gemini 2.5 Deep Think will undergo additional safety evaluations before launching and will be available to Google AI Ultra subscribers. Google also introduced a new Google AI Ultra tier that costs $249.99/month to get early and maximum access to the bleeding edge. It's available in the U.S. now, with more countries coming soon, and offers a special 50% off for first-time users' first three months.
