Google TV Freeplay: The Future of Free Live TV

Samsung TV Plus competitor from Google is now called Google TV Freeplay

When it comes to smart TV platforms, Google TV and Tizen OS are leading the space. One of the standout features of both platforms is the ability to access many live channels for free natively. Samsung offers this feature through Samsung TV Plus, while Google previously referred to its service simply as Google TV. This naming led to confusion between the smart TV platform and the free live channels it provides. To address this confusion, Google has renamed its free live channels offering to Google TV Freeplay.

Google TV Freeplay Offering

According to a report from Android Authority, Google TV's free live channels are now known as Google TV Freeplay. Users can now navigate to the Live tab and access Free Built-In Channels to experience Google TV Freeplay instead of the previous Google TV branding. This rebranding is currently live on Chromecast and Android TV models, including those from Hisense and TCL, in the United States.

It's important to note that Samsung TV Plus is available in more countries than Google TV Freeplay, including India, the world's most populous country. Therefore, if you're looking to purchase a TV that provides access to free live channels, it's advisable to check which platform is available in your region.

Further Developments

Google, inspired by Samsung's DeX feature, is introducing freeform app windows to Android devices to enhance user productivity. Additionally, Google recently unveiled Gemini Live, a conversational mode for the Gemini app's AI assistant, expanding its availability to more users. Furthermore, Google Chrome's Tab Groups feature is now synchronized across mobile and desktop devices for a seamless browsing experience.

Last year, Google revamped its Google Home app for Android, focusing on significant improvements while addressing basic features such as adding a search bar in the Devices tab and supporting Material You theming.

In a recent collaboration, Indian TV manufacturer Ekkaa Electronics partnered with Samsung to incorporate Samsung's Tizen OS into future Ekkaa LED smart TVs, bringing advanced technologies and enhanced viewing experiences to customers.
