Google Gemini's prompt bar redesign for Android is almost here
The Google Gemini app for Android is working on a redesigned prompt bar, with some other changes in tow. This redesign brings options like Deep Research, Canvas, and Video (Veo 2) inside the prompt bar, thus making them more easily accessible. These changes are only available through a beta version of the Google app right now, with no clarity on when they will be widely available for all users. However, the design tweaks are already live on the Gemini apps for iPhones and iPads.
Redesigned Prompt Bar
Google Gemini has gotten a lot better over the past few months, thanks largely to the addition of new models, tools, as well as periodic UI tweaks. The web version of Gemini recently picked up an update that saw the uncluttering of the model picker and a few other changes.
Google is now bringing over some of those changes to the Gemini mobile apps, along expected lines. The Gemini apps for Android and iOS are picking up a redesigned prompt bar, going from a standard pill-shaped bar to a larger, rectangular container with rounded edges.
The larger container accommodates options like Deep Research, Canvas, and a three-dot icon. Tapping this icon shows all three available tools — Deep Research, Canvas, and Video — accompanied by a single-line description of what they do.
Enhanced Functionality
The attachment (+) icon will perform the same function as before, opening up options like Camera, Gallery, Files, and Drive. Consequently, this menu is much shorter, as some of the tools that previously existed have moved to the prompt bar, with the model picker also being less crowded. The microphone icon for voice input and the Gemini Live icon continue to live inside the prompt bar.
Availability
As observed earlier, the changes are already live on the Gemini app for iOS and iPadOS, indicating that they could appear on Android relatively soon. A beta version of the Google app triggers this redesign, as per reports, and it's unclear when it will appear on the stable version of the app.
Stay tuned for the updated Google Gemini app for Android with the redesigned prompt bar, providing a more seamless and user-friendly experience for all users.
