Google Gemini vs. ChatGPT: The Battle of Automated Prompts

Google Gemini's new Scheduled Actions tool puts it on par with...

Google is enhancing its Gemini AI assistant with a significant productivity boost through the introduction of Scheduled Actions. This feature enables users to automate tasks and receive timely, personalized updates without the need for repeated prompts. Announced at Google I/O and currently in the process of gradually rolling out, Scheduled Actions empower Gemini to execute instructions at specific times or on a recurring basis. Whether it's receiving a motivational quote every morning at 7 AM, updating your grocery list every Friday evening, or getting a daily roundup of top news headlines at lunchtime, Gemini can now manage it proactively.

This new functionality positions Gemini on par with similar features recently introduced by OpenAI for ChatGPT, where users can establish automated prompts. However, Gemini's integration within Google's wider ecosystem provides it with a distinct advantage. With access to your Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and more, Gemini offers a centralized and seamless experience. Whether it's reminding you to reply to a flagged email or summarizing upcoming travel plans from your inbox, Gemini has you covered.

Enhanced Capabilities of Scheduled Actions

As per Google's recent blog post, users have the ability to customize existing scheduled tasks by adjusting the timing, modifying the content, or deleting them altogether. Gemini can now fetch information from various sources across your Google account to deliver relevant updates. For example, it can notify you when a package delivery email is received or provide location-specific weather forecasts.

Accessibility of Scheduled Actions

At present, access to Gemini's Scheduled Actions is relatively restricted. This feature is exclusively available to users subscribed to Google’s AI Pro or Ultra plans, or to individuals with eligible Workspace business or education accounts. Unlike ChatGPT, which imposes a limit of ten scheduled tasks, Google has not specified if Gemini will have similar constraints or how it manages expired or replaced tasks.

Furthermore, Google is continuously advancing Gemini with additional usability enhancements. An enhanced preview of Gemini 2.5 Pro, the latest language model from the company with enhanced coding capabilities, is set to be launched soon. Additionally, interacting with Gemini Live is becoming more user-friendly, as users can now swipe from the right edge of the screen to access it instantly, replacing the previous method of tapping a dedicated button.
