Google Gemini Tool Returns with New Imagen 3 Generator

Google reopens AI portrait function after "crash"

Google has announced the reopening of its artificial intelligence (AI) image generation feature, allowing users to create character images using the Gemini tool. This feature had been temporarily suspended in February due to inaccuracies in historical images, which led to embarrassing incidents on various social platforms. The new Imagen 3 generator will be accessible to select users initially and will be gradually rolled out to a wider audience. However, it's important to note that this tool does not support the generation of sensitive content.

Google's Response

According to a report by the financial news app Zhitong Finance, Google (GOOGL.US, GOOG.US) made the announcement on Wednesday regarding the reinstatement of the AI image generation option. Dave Citron, the Senior Product Director of Gemini, shared in a blog post that Google plans to introduce the new Imagen 3 generator to Gemini Advanced, business, and enterprise users in the near future.

Earlier this year, Google had halted the image generation feature citing "inaccuracies" in historical images provided by the function. There were instances of misleading character images circulating on social media platforms. For example, some generated images incorrectly depicted African Americans and Native Americans as the founding fathers of the United States or included Asians and African Americans as 1943 German soldiers.

Enhanced Features

Citron mentioned that Imagen 3 is designed to avoid realistic personal identification, content involving minors, or excessively violent, bloody, or sexual scenes. He acknowledged that while the generated images may not be flawless, Google is committed to refining the feature based on early user feedback. The company plans to gradually introduce this updated feature to a broader user base and across more languages in the near future.
