Google has announced the addition of third-party Gemini Extension support for Spotify, the popular music streaming service. This new extension, which was initially found in Google's code in June, is now being rolled out to selected Android devices. Users will be able to leverage this support to search for and play music using Google's AI assistant.

Google has revealed that more than five extensions, including the one for Spotify, will be launched in the upcoming weeks. However, some users are still awaiting support for other apps such as WhatsApp, Phone, Messages, and Utilities.

When using the Gemini extension, users who have linked their Google and Spotify accounts need to specify their preferred music service, such as YouTube Music, at the outset. This choice will then become the default music service.

Users are required to enable Gemini Apps Activity and link their Spotify and Google accounts to utilize the extension fully. The extension can store AI queries for up to 72 hours to improve user experience. It is important to note that the Gemini extension cannot be used within Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or the Gemini iOS app.

After activating the Gemini extension, users can control Spotify using voice commands like 'Play Music', 'Play [album] on Spotify', or 'Play [song name] by [artist name] on Spotify'.
