Google Drive Can Now Summarize Videos with Gemini AI
Google is introducing a new feature to Drive that makes it easier for Workspace users to comprehend the contents of their saved videos. The tool, named Gemini AI, which is already capable of summarizing documents and PDFs in Google Drive, can now perform the same function with videos. This development allows users to obtain a brief overview of a video's content without the need to watch the entire duration.
Gemini AI operates in a similar manner to a chatbot. Users can inquire about the video, such as identifying action items from a meeting or highlighting key updates in a product announcement. This functionality serves to save time and streamline the process, particularly when dealing with lengthy recordings.
How to Use Gemini AI:
In order to utilize this feature, videos must have captions enabled. Users can access it either through Drive's preview window or by opening the video in a new browser tab. Presently, this feature is only accessible in English and is limited to individuals using Google Workspace, Google One AI Premium, or those who have purchased the Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons. The rollout of this feature may vary, with some users needing to wait a few weeks before it becomes available.

Google is also introducing another update that provides insights into how users interact with videos in Drive. The video player will now include analytics that reveal the number of times a video has been accessed. This data can be found in the Details panel under the Analytics section. This feature is beneficial for individuals who wish to monitor the viewership frequency of their videos.
