Google has been appointed as the official search AI partner of Team USA, establishing a groundbreaking partnership between a technology company and a sports nonprofit organization, according to a joint statement released by the three entities.

Modernizing Coverage for Changing Viewership
This development coincides with NBCUniversal's efforts to modernize its coverage of the Games, catering to audiences who prefer non-traditional viewing methods and younger viewers who consume content online. In line with this strategy, the Comcast-owned media company announced plans to introduce personalized AI-generated daily recaps of the competition, featuring AI narrators modeled after figures like sports commentator Al Michaels.
As part of the revamped coverage, NBCUniversal's hosts will utilize Google Search's AI capabilities during both daytime and primetime broadcasts to address inquiries about various sports, including nuanced aspects like the significance of pool-lane assignments in swimming events.

Enhancing Viewer Engagement and Entertainment
Google's AI overviews offer succinct written responses to search queries, eliminating the need to navigate external websites. Additionally, comedian Leslie Jones, slated to serve as a commentator during the Paris Olympics, will leverage Google’s Gemini AI model to acquaint herself with new sports disciplines and engage viewers through entertaining commentary.
