Japanese tech giant SoftBank Group Corp., along with OpenAI and Oracle Corp., will collaborate to establish a new company dedicated to investing a minimum of $500 billion in artificial intelligence infrastructure within the United States. This initiative was announced by President Donald Trump, who emphasized that it would generate a significant number of job opportunities in the country.
Massive Investment for the Future
The investment, known as the Stargate Project, is set to be implemented over the next four years, focusing on constructing new AI infrastructure for OpenAI. According to a statement released by SoftBank Group and OpenAI, the U.S.-based developer of the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, this project aims to enhance technological advancements in the field of artificial intelligence.
Strategic Implications
In a joint statement, the companies stated, "This project will not only support the re-industrialization of the United States but also provide a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies." This significant investment follows a previous commitment made by SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son to invest $100 billion in U.S. projects, focusing on AI and other emerging technologies over the next four years.
SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX, an AI and advanced technology investor, are the initial equity funders in the Stargate Project. SoftBank and OpenAI will act as the lead partners, with SoftBank handling financial responsibilities and OpenAI overseeing operational aspects. Son will serve as the chairman of this groundbreaking endeavor.

Microsoft Corp. and Nvidia Corp. are also set to join the project as technological partners.
