Meta preps an AI video maker to mess with your feed – Pickr
More videos are coming to your Facebook and Instagram feeds, and thanks to AI, you mightn’t even know if they’re real. The year of AI isn’t done yet, largely because the year isn’t done either, and video is the next target. Open AI has already hinted as to what’s coming from its Sora platform, and next on the list is Meta, owners of Facebook, which could be flooding your feed with AI videos in the coming weeks.
Meta’s Movie Gen AI System
As part of the company’s push to have more AI on its platforms — a move not everyone has been happy with — Meta has been working on Movie Gen, an AI system that can create video from either text or an image. It’s not unlike the other text to image or text to music platforms that are out there, only it’s text to video, and Meta’s Movie Gen page paints an interesting picture of realistic videos on the way to make our Facebook feeds a very, very confusing place.
Potential Impact on Social Feeds
Videos that clearly didn’t happen but appear to have could be found on your feed soon, and it’s not the only example of what Meta Movie Gen can do. The system can add soundtracks consisting of sounds and music to existing videos, replace elements in a video, and is also able to insert your face on videos created from those text prompts. At the moment, the system can create a video running for a maximum of 16 seconds, so it’s not likely to take up too much of your life. However, telling the difference between real-life and artificial might be just that much more complex.
Future Release of Movie Gen
In terms of when you can expect a feed full of fake films, Meta hasn’t set a release date beyond noting Movie Gen will have a “potential future release”. But given it’s not the only company working on AI video, there’s a good chance its release will be on the cards sooner than you think.
