ChatGPT Plus by OpenAI is now available for free for some users until the end of May 2025. CEO Sam Altman made the exciting announcement. The usual $20/month subscription cost for college students in the US and Canada has been waived until the specified date.
If you're a ChatGPT Plus subscriber, you now have access to a range of new features including expanded messaging capabilities, file uploads, data analysis tools, image generation, and much more. To be eligible for this offer, college students must be located in the United States (including territories like Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam) or Canada. It's important to note that attempting to access the offer via VPN will not grant you free access.
Eligibility
Full and part-time students at degree-granting institutions in the US and Canada are eligible for this special offer, as confirmed by the official OpenAI website. Academic credentials are verified through SheerID, the company's verification partner. The verification process involves checking authoritative sources such as university databases through SheerID and utilizing Single Sign-On (SSO) for secure login with school credentials.
For existing ChatGPT Plus subscribers who are eligible for the offer, their accounts will automatically be credited for an additional two months of free access.
