Apple is reportedly in talks with Google's Gemini to use its AI in iPhones
According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is currently in discussions with Google regarding the integration of Google's Gemini generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its iPhones. The two tech giants are said to be actively negotiating this potential partnership, with plans to implement Gemini's AI to power new features within the iPhone software by the end of this year.
Issues with Gemini's AI Tools
Gemini is a set of AI tools developed by Google, which includes chatbots and coding assistants. However, the platform has faced challenges with its generative AI tools. Recently, Google had to temporarily halt its image-generation feature due to inaccuracies such as depicting historical figures incorrectly.
Google's CEO Sundar Pichai publicly denounced these errors as "completely unacceptable." Despite these setbacks, Apple is exploring the possibility of leveraging Gemini's capabilities in its devices.
Apple's Engagement with OpenAI
Aside from discussions with Google, Apple has also been in talks with OpenAI to potentially incorporate the AI model ChatGPT into its products. However, the terms of the agreement and the specific implementation of this AI technology have yet to be finalized.
Future Developments
Rumors suggest that Apple may unveil its latest operating system, iOS 18, for the iPhone at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Apple's CEO Tim Cook has also hinted at the introduction of Gen-AI features later this year, indicating the company's commitment to advancing AI technologies.
Aside from AI collaborations, other tech developments are also underway, such as the deployment of AI traffic cameras by ten police forces in England. These cameras aim to detect traffic violations like mobile phone usage while driving.
Impact on the Oil and Gas Industry
Meanwhile, the British government's plans to increase taxes on North Sea oil and gas producers have raised concerns within the industry. The proposed tax changes could result in a significant revenue drop and a decline in capital investment, affecting the sector's growth and output.
Furthermore, global automotive companies like Volkswagen are facing challenges in transitioning to electric vehicles, with potential factory closures looming in Germany. The shift towards sustainable energy sources is reshaping industries worldwide, driving changes in manufacturing and investment strategies.
