Google's Gemini Lags Behind ChatGPT in AI Chatbot Subscription N
Google has unveiled an official iOS app for its AI chatbot, Gemini, in a bid to rival ChatGPT in the mobile arena. Despite this move, Google still trails behind both ChatGPT and Claude in terms of paid user subscriptions.
Market Position
Recent data suggests that while Google leads in AI foundational research, it falls short in the AI application domain. ChatGPT and Claude enjoy strong positions due to their early market entry. Earnest Analytics reveals that approximately 60% of Gemini Advanced subscribers continue their subscriptions after six months. In comparison, over 70% of ChatGPT Plus users and slightly above 60% of Claude Pro users, developed by Anthropic with support from industry giants like Amazon and Google, maintain their subscriptions.
Pricing and User Base
Gemini Advanced is priced at $19.99 per month and is part of the Google One AIPremium program, offering additional storage and benefits. On the other hand, ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month, granting users access to advanced models and features. Although Google has not disclosed Gemini's user numbers, OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, claims to have approximately 300 million weekly ChatGPT users. Furthermore, ChatGPT boasts over 465 million app downloads, whereas Gemini has around 106 million downloads.
Functionality and Capabilities
Despite Gemini's proficiency in handling various data formats and its seamless integration within Google's ecosystem, ChatGPT and Claude outshine in language comprehension and generation. Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, has expressed confidence in Gemini's AI capabilities and aims to reach over 500 million users by the end of the year.
