Google Expands Gemini's Reach to Over 100 Countries
Google made headlines earlier this year when it rebranded its Bard chatbot to Gemini and introduced its mobile app to replace Assistant. Initially limited to the US, the app's availability quickly expanded to Europe and Asia. However, users in countries like Canada were left out of the loop.
Global Expansion of Gemini Mobile App
Fortunately, Google has now made the Gemini mobile app accessible in over 100 countries worldwide. This means users no longer have to sideload the app on their Android devices; instead, they can download it directly from the Google Play Store. Once installed, users can seamlessly transition from Google Assistant to Gemini, a cutting-edge AI-powered chatbot.
Compatibility and Restrictions
It's essential to note that certain restrictions still apply. Users with the Gemini for Workspace add-on enabled won't be able to use the mobile app. Furthermore, access to the Gemini app is not possible within the Android Work Profile.
Accessing Gemini through Chrome
Google has streamlined the process of accessing Gemini from Chrome on PCs. Users can now summon the chatbot by typing "@gemini" in Chrome's Omnibox, followed by their query. Upon hitting enter, Gemini will open directly on the web with the answer to the user's question.
The integration of Gemini into Chrome's address bar was first spotted during testing in Chrome Canary in mid-April. While the feature is gradually rolling out, users may experience delays in summoning Gemini directly from Chrome's address bar.
Enhancements and Features
Google is also extending Gemini Extensions to all languages and countries where the chatbot is available. This feature will enable users to leverage Extensions to extract pertinent information from various Google services such as Drive, Gmail, and YouTube.
Moreover, Google has added support for nine additional languages, including Japanese and Korean. A complete list of supported languages can be found here.
Seamless Workflow Integration
This enhancement comes on the heels of Google's announcement regarding the integration of machine learning models into Chrome's address bar to enhance suggestions. For avid Gemini users, this integration into Chrome's address bar is poised to significantly accelerate workflow efficiencies.
