Google Rolls Out Real-Time AI Video Features for Gemini
Google has introduced real-time AI features to Gemini Live, allowing the AI to instantly interpret screens and smartphone camera feeds. This development, as mentioned by Google spokesperson Alex Joseph, is now accessible to select Google One AI Premium subscribers. The latest update expands on Google’s earlier “Project Astra” initiative, which was initially unveiled almost a year ago.
Spotting the Features
A Reddit user recently shared their discovery of this feature on their Xiaomi device, as reported by 9to5Google. The user later posted a video showcasing Gemini’s new capability to read screens. This function was first announced by Google in March as part of its Gemini Advanced rollout for premium subscribers.
Live Video Interpretation
One of the significant features being introduced is live video interpretation. With this functionality, Gemini can analyze a smartphone’s camera feed in real-time and offer relevant insights. In a demonstration video by Google, users are shown seeking Gemini’s advice, like selecting an appropriate paint color for freshly glazed pottery.
This rollout further solidifies Google’s position in AI-driven virtual assistants. While Amazon is gearing up for the limited launch of its Alexa Plus upgrade and Apple has delayed the release of its enhanced Siri, Google continues to forge ahead with advanced AI-powered capabilities. Samsung has also designated Gemini as the default AI assistant on its devices, despite still offering Bixby.
