Google Reveals 'AI Teammate' for Workspace - UC Today

Google has announced the new Gemini for Workspace feature ‘AI Teammate’ at Google I/O. The new AI feature is essentially an AI representation that acts like another coworker, interacting with others within a multi-user space, such as chat groups, emails, and documents.

The US tech giant Google also unveiled additional Gemini for Workspace capabilities, including a revamped side panel for Workspace applications, AI summaries and analysis, smart replies, Q&A updates in Gmail, and further improvements to the daily workflow.

Introduction of AI Teammate

AI Teammate AnnouncementAparna Pappu, VP, GM and Vice President, Google Workspace at Google, introduced the AI Teammate for Gemini in the Google I/O keynote speech. The AI Teammate aims to enhance collaborative efforts by providing users with an AI-powered assistant that works alongside them.

Pappu highlighted the potential of AI in improving team collaboration by introducing a virtual Gemini-powered teammate with a defined identity, role, and objective within the workspace.

Enhanced Workspace Capabilities

Google is rolling out a “more powerful” side panel for its Workspace Labs and Gemini for Workspace Alpha users, with plans to make it accessible to all Workspace users and Google One AI Premium subscribers. This side panel experience allows users to interact with Gemini for tasks such as summarising, analysing, and creating content from emails, documents, and more.

AI Teammate ImageThe integration with Gemini 1.5 Pro enables users to gain insights and responses based on extensive datasets, providing valuable email summaries and highlights without leaving the current workspace.

Gemini's 'Summarise' feature within Gmail offers users a convenient way to view key points in emails, improving productivity for Workspace users.

Smart Reply and Workflow Enhancements

Gmail's Smart Reply feature is set to receive an update, offering more detailed response suggestions through the Contextual Smart Reply function. Additionally, users will soon be able to engage with Gemini through Gmail Q&A in Workspace Labs on mobile devices.
