CES 2025: Gemini AI Coming To Google TVs
Exciting news for owners of TV sets running the Google TV operating system - an AI upgrade is on the horizon. Gemini AI will be incorporated into the Google Assistant voice-control system, as announced at the ongoing CES technology conference in Las Vegas.
Google provided a sneak peek of the enhanced Google TV software during the event. This update will introduce more natural voice commands, improved content search capabilities, and deeper integration with YouTube.
Gemini Upgrade
The Gemini upgrade is scheduled to be rolled out later this year. It will enable users to engage in conversations with third-party TVs without having to use the "Hey Google" trigger phrase for each command. According to reports from Bloomberg, this functionality will be made possible by equipping the TVs with far-field microphones. These microphones will allow users to issue voice commands directly to the TV, eliminating the need for a remote.
Expansion to Third-Party TV Sets
This marks the first instance of Google bringing its Gemini AI to third-party TV sets running its OS. Brands such as Sony, Hisense, and TCL will join the roster after Google initially introduced some of this technology on its own Google TV streamer last year.
The Google TV platform competes with various other major television operating systems from industry players like Samsung, Amazon, and Roku. Additionally, LG and Samsung revealed at CES that select 2025 TV models will offer access to Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant.
Always-On Mode
Aside from the Gemini AI announcement, Google also teased a new "always-on" mode for a range of TVs. This feature utilizes sensors to detect when a user is approaching the TV, subsequently displaying relevant information that may be of interest. For instance, it could show weather updates when people are near the TV.
