Gemini Adds Google Photos Search Feature - Tech Advisor
Google is rolling out a new feature for its Gemini AI assistant that allows users to search for photos using natural language. The Gemini app on Android is being updated with a powerful Google Photos extension, as reported by 9to5Google.
Users can now ask Gemini to search for specific types of photos or descriptions, such as 'my photos shot from airplane windows' or 'recent selfies'. The AI assistant can also recognize relationships set in the Google Photos app, allowing users to search for specific people.
Advanced Search Capabilities
In addition to basic searches, users can also request "important details found in your photos", like asking for specific information related to a photo. For example, users can ask questions like "what did we eat at the hotel in Stanly?" or "what's my driver's license number?".
When users tap on the Gemini search results, they will be directed to the Google Photos app, where they can view additional images based on their search request.
This new Gemini Google Photos feature is currently being rolled out gradually to a select group of invited users. While the feature is not yet available in the UK, it is limited to select US users for now.
Activation Process
Once the feature becomes available, users can activate the Google Photos function within the Gemini app by accessing their profile menu, navigating to Apps, and scrolling down to the Media section. Google Photos will appear as a toggle option alongside other apps like Spotify, YouTube, and YouTube Music.
The Gemini app will respond to prompts such as 'my photos' and '@ Google Photos' to access custom albums from the user's Google Photos backup.
Overall, the new Google Photos search feature in Gemini enhances the photo-searching experience for users, providing more intuitive and efficient ways to find and organize their photos.
